The “Iron Gate I” hydropower and navigation system is located at 863 km upstream of the Danube River mouth into the Black Sea, at the Kusjak-Ostrovul Mare profile. Both Serbia and Romania each dispose over one power plant, one additional power plant, spillway dam and ship lock.
The power plant was first synchronized in 1985.
